Troubled brands are everywhere in society with no end in sight. Tiger Woods, Toyota, the NFL, the NBA referees, and don’t forget about the NCAA and the BCS system. I didn’t even mention President Obama and the anger he is generating in the Tea Party. You’ve got to be screwing up pretty well to make Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin look credible. What’s wrong with these brands?
Toyota actually is in the best position to restore it’s good name. Years of quality and performance can go a long way in creating a brand and fixing one. Toyota will recover when it’s cars can start and stop again. Sports in general has an integrity problem. This year was marked by questionable games, suspensions, and tough calls. At a time where the brand should be booming, its about to bust due to greed and the inability to agree to revenue sharing. What a waste? From the Super Game to the Hall of Shame Game, the NFL will be racked with strife.
Don’t get me started on the BCS system! Why not just award the trophy to Florida, Texas, Alabama or USC right now? As for the NBA, it’s going to be Cleveland or the Lakers. Shaq or Kobe will get another ring and a reality TV show. The networks need somebody-anybody to fill the void left by Tiger Woods. Talk about busted brands? I just hope Tiger and Elin find a way to keep their family intact. Who cares about that phoney brand? A Holy Steve Urkel on steroids is just a golfer after the hype and after the loving.
Before I digress, I must touch upon President Obama’s broken brand. Yes, We Can is now at best “Maybe?” Obama has lost his “Mojo.” He is devoid of all passion for the issues that prevailed in primary and election. His lack of passion makes him look like Jimmy Carter waiting to hand over the White House to the next Ronald Reagan. America is pissed. Obama’s brand was busted by his inaugural speech about “Petty Grievances” and “Childish Things.” He keeps fighting for petty issues and doing childish things. How many times will he kick Las Vegas? Obama’s brand is generic and has no proven track record of success. How do you fix that brand? Do something good!
In short, give me Toyota’s problems anytime because that’s a quick fix. Who can fix a problem if they don’t first have a clue? The NFL is greedy, the BCS is broken, and Obama is too arrogant. Insurance reform and equal access to healthcare are in opposition to each other. Arrogance is what’s making the tarnished brand of the GOP look better. We now know what’s in the Obama box. We see the brand and many of us want a refund. I’m not so desperate to accept Palin’s brand. That’s just stupid.

Toyota is under fire and the only people who actually care are the people who can’t stop their car. Safety is an issue and Toyota’s problems may or may not be exclusive. If cars have a computer glitch, do all cars have the problem? Is Toyota just the first to discover it? When America stops trying to falsely elevate GM products and refocuses on the “Safety Issue” the problem will be fixed. Toyota has always had a good brand and as long as cars in general are safe, Toyota will command a large portion of the sales. Why? Their target market wants fast, hot, and sexy cars. We all want cars that stop when we put on the brakes. If Toyota has a problem do we all have a safety problem? Toyota for now is facing the criticism alone. If they keep giving the public what it wants it will be just fine. The public wants the safety fear to end. I’m not sure if a government selling cars still cares about safety or destroying it’s competition. Is this “The Art of War?”
