change yourself or change your surroundings

Posted on 20 December 2009 by carlos666

its kind of weird, when the life you are accomodated to for years, comes to an end.u see the end coming, but can never actually imagine the void that it will leave behind in our lives….
one thing that has always been constant in my life is change…
when i was 13,my parents traded the quiet, serene life of the small town for the vibrant colours of the city life…
my life changed…
i was a small,quiet,shy boy back then,alien to the traffic,the music and the people…
it was tough…
one day while talkin to my dad about these problems,he dropped me a valuable piece of advice.
he said “son, the going will get tough in life, but that doesnt mean u can stop and be left behind.change yourself or change your surroundings.”
i knew i could do nothing much about changin the surroundings,so i changed myself.i evolved.
and now,as i am on the threshold of leaving my great institution,my father’s words of wisdom echo in my ears.
i changed.and i now stand here, very different from the quiet, small boy i used to be.i stand here as the captain of my school,a leader,a speaker,an athlete and above all,a good human being.

I love the refreshing advice offered in this story, but I think it lacks actual real life experience. What’s the matter? Where does this approach fall short? This is a dog eat dog world where people advance by treating you like “Milkbone.” Change all you want but that saying, “You’ll never work in this town again” can be painfully true. Can you change your social security number? Can you change identities? You can only change your mind when it comes to keeping your integrity. Those who are viewed as “Successful” may have developed “Situational Ethics.” “I did not have sex with that woman” is a prime example. Want another? How about Tiger Woods? Integrity won’t pay the bills, but if you eat it you may think it’s a steak and lobster dinner. Without integrity you changed and you may not think anyone sees it. We will all be judged-just not now and not by anyone here. Carlos…Does Evil Change? Be yourself and keep your integrity.

Great article. I am happy everything is falling into place for you. Adaptation is the key to a good attitude and vice versa. The real challenge will be when your lifes sine wave goes negative and it will. While you are at the bottom of that sine is where your ability to adapt and change tactics will be pivotal.

  3. baco Says:

Penman did you just get “Sucked In” by someone seeking validation for something evil? The writers name is Carlos666. Evolution in this case could be a hidden discussion about joining the gang or worse. People don’t change who they are to be a success. People change others behavior and that makes us successful and good. Integrity leads and lasts the test of time. Being left behind is an opportunity to have one’s character tested. Where you stand in times of uncertainty and turbulance is the test of a man’s true character. In good times, there is nothing but smiles and we can only see the amount of generosity in his heart. Adversity is the fire we must walk through with integrity and courage. Life’s sine wave sounds like “Situational Ethics.”

Every head will bow and every knee will bend. I am just trying to do what I do better. Like I said, when that sine wave plummets and you are on rock bottom your change of path is pivotal. Chidish fantasy becomes ash.

at baco-what i am trying to say through this article is that we have to change with time and with situations.one must learn to adapt and reinvent himself.that is the key to survival.

  6. baco Says:

What I’m saying Carlos is crystal clear. You can’t change who you are, but if your situational ethics change you lack integrity. That makes one kinda sleazy. People are not chameleons. Stay good.

  7. carlos666 Says:

i get what u tryin to say here Baco.but what m trying to say is that u must learn how to adapt urself.m not sayin that u should change ur values and principles.but u should always adapt to situations.
for example if u r small town guy and u move into a big city,u should adapt to the situation and change but at the same time u should not compromise on your values.

  8. baco Says:

Carlos, I’m not trying to say anything…I said it and you responded. I’m having trouble understanding what you don’t understand about “Don’t compromise your integrity?” Anyone writing under the penname “666″ is playing “Devil’s Advocate.” Small towns have the same values as Big Cities. Cities have more people rewarded for “Situational Ethics.” Small towns see them for what they are. If you are the only person getting hurt when using changing ethics, be all you can be hurting yourself and all alone. If you move to the Big City, you can’t call being tolerated as a loser a success now can you? Everything depends on one’s perspective now doesn’t it? I didn’t try to say this, I said it. Do you understand?

  9. carlos666 Says:

first of all, where does my having 666 as a part of my penname come in the middle?
and secondly,i think baco, that u have a knack of misunderstanding simple stuff.
all that i have been saying is that u should adapt to ur surroundings and at the same time not compromise on ur values.
    that is all.

  10. baco Says:

Carlos, Carlos, Carlos how well are you adapting to your new surroundings? If you can’t take the litte criticism that I have offered you as a member of the Citizen’s Journal, then how adaptable are you? What I’ve said is the truth. It appears to me that “You can’t handle the truth?” You should see me when I really want to be critical. I don’t know you from a hole in the ground. What does the abbreviation “666″ universally represent? Are you playing “Devil’s Advocate?” Happy New Year and I’m done with this article. You get the last word. I invite you to be critical of my work if you want. Critical thinking is how we grow. Situational ethics just help us get bye. You’ve found a way to just get bye. Develope your integrity and you can lead anywhere.
